Weekly News and Freebie Tips

Designer Tip
Are you using freebies to your best advantage? Over the past few years, I’ve seen a shift in how freebies are found and promoted. When designers first started getting on blogging platforms, giving away a freebie was a good way to get people to come over to the blogs and have a look around. Blog trains became popular and customers could find designers they weren’t familiar with.
This is still a good way to give away freebies but are you doing something EXTRA to attract people to your store or newsletter? I feel it’s a mistake to give away a freebie without doing some sort of advertising along with it. “Getting your name out there” isn’t enough to increase sales because there are so many designers selling in so many stores. Besides just promoting your brand, you need to give people a reason to buy while they’re on your blog.
If you’re doing a blog train, make sure you are promoting something else in the post as well. If it’s allowed, do it ABOVE the freebie. Otherwise make sure to say at the top to read the whole post for a special offer. I’ve had some good success with the last two blog trains I’ve participated in by including additional products and special offers. In July, I made a larger kit that coordinated with the blog train theme and had it in store in time for the blog train. I had good sales of this kit. In May, I did an add-on to the blog train that was ONLY available to newsletter subscribers. I increased my newsletter subscribers by 300 that month and my sales went up by getting my products in front of those people.
For my weekly freebies, I always mention at the bottom to sign up for my weekly newsletter so they don’t miss ant special offers or future freebies.
My current blog freebie promotion is pulling out all the stops. I am giving away a free kit to newsletter subscribers but only after they have helped my spread the word about it. I’m asking people to tweet, share and pin the freebie and they have been! I’ve gained 400 new subscribers to my newsletter and expect to be at my goal of 500 by the end of the weekend. You can see the kit and promotion I’m doing HERE on my blog. You are welcome to subscribe yourself to have a look at some of my blogging topics and promotions that you may be able to adapt to your own marketing efforts.
