In Photoshop, we use brushes just like we would use stamps in traditional, paper scrapping. (Only we have the advantage of not getting ink all over our hands, or of smearing the ink before it dries.)
To Load a brush in Photoshop, you can either drag and drop the ABR file onto the Photoshop work space, or load it by doing the following:
- Click on the brush icon in the Tool Bar on the left to select the Brush Tool.
- In the top Options Bar, Click on the down-pointing arrow, next to the brush display (which shows the current brush that is selected)
- This will open your Brushes Panel. Click on the icon that looks like a grommet (on the right).
- Scroll down to Load Brushes, then navigate to the ABR file you want to use. Click on it, and it will automatically load.
Next choose which specific brush you would like to use by clicking on that down-pointing arrow again. When the Brush Panel opens, scroll thru to select the brush you want.
Choose what color you would like your brush/stamp to be, using the color picker.
Create a blank layer above the paper you would like to stamp. Placing your brush/stamp on a separate layer allows you the freedom to manipulate that layer in any way you choose. Stamp your brush on this blank layer. If it looks perfect to you, then all is good! If not, play with opacity levels and blending modes. Apply a Photoshop style if you wish. Change the color of the stamp or apply a gradient. Just have fun with it!
